Thursday at Malham 2018
After fuelling up on a big breakfast, we set off to the outdoor classroom to look at maps and grid references. Then we donned our hats and jackets-( it was a frosty one!) and headed out to explore the village and find the symbols on the ordnance survey map!
We had some fun seeing how many could fit in a telephone box whilst having a quick lesson on what they are! Mrs Guest’s group won!
We came back for another good lunch and then donned our wellies for a river study. The sun had now come out and the frost had dispersed - but the river was freezing!
We learnt how to measure depth, width, velocity and look for changes in the sediment! So off we trotted around the village with our measuring tools and waterproofs! We successfully took samples at two main sites and finished with a paddle. Time to empty the boots before we got back to the hostel!
We had a hearty dinner of sausage and mash, for those who chose that, and who knew that lemon meringue pie would be so popular!
We settled down to watch a film with Sharnbrook Primary and then performed in the talent show, for those who had an act.
Mr Dyson got 3 red buzzers for his jokes - definitely a must try harder!!
We are settling down for our last night in the hostel. We will miss those views!
Friday morning: An early start by the boys, who were keen to get to breakfast.
A quick lesson on how to strip a bed- they will be professionals at this by the time they get home!
We had another delicious breakfast, we will certainly miss the full English every morning!
Dorms are packed.... final dorm inspection to take place soon and we will go on a quick ' Bug Hunt' before we board the bus home.
It has been a great week, with lots of laughs, giggles, silly jokes and plenty of memory making! The children have been superb and a credit to the school!
We hope they have a restful half term - ready for the run up to Christmas!
