Our Vision and Values

Our school vision, inspired by the Parable of the Sower (Mark 4:1-20), alongside our Christian school values, outline our overarching ambition to ensure that every child who attends Riseley Church of England Primary School is able to flourish and grow and achieve their full potential.

The parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-20) tells of a farmer who scatters seed on different types of ground. Some falls on the path and is eaten by birds. Some lands on rocky soil, where it springs up quickly but withers under the sun because it has no depth of root. Some falls among thorns, which choke it. And some lands on good soil, where it produces a rich harvest. For our school, the children represent the seeds and the school provides the good soil allowing the seeds to flourish and thrive.
Relevance for a church school
-
Every child is receptive in different ways. The parable reminds staff that pupils come with different backgrounds, experiences and readiness to learn. Teaching is about sowing generously and patiently, without writing anyone off.
-
Nurturing good soil. Schools can help create the conditions for growth: a safe, caring environment, strong relationships, high expectations and support when things are difficult.
-
Perseverance and deep roots. Quick enthusiasm is not enough. The parable encourages resilience, commitment and building foundations of character and values that last.
-
Dealing with distractions. The thorns can speak to pressures children face, such as peer pressure, anxiety, social media and materialism. It opens space for conversations about what really matters.
-
Listening. Jesus ends with a call to hear. This supports a culture of reflection, attentiveness and open-mindedness in learning and worship.
-
Hope and fruitfulness. The harvest is abundant, which encourages pupils and staff that their efforts will bear fruit, even when progress is slow or not immediately visible.
